Mentorship and Training Programs

While taking “Technology and Leadership,” I examined in detail the type of leader that I present to my colleagues and what utility there is in the type of support that I offer as an Ed Tech coach. Through the course, I created a new way in which to provide support and training to teachers. Instead of sitting through boring meetings every few weeks listing to others lecture us, perhaps the same initiative of personalization could—and should—be applied to teachers as well. One-size-fits-all professional learning does not work. Along with the MAET team, I devised a mentor program targeting teacher needs and offering specific support. This PL (Professional Learning) could act more like a certification or badging program. Some of the elements that I have suggested have been embraced by my faculty. The “Welcome Falcon” is one of which I am particularly proud. Based on reading in the course, I designed, printed, and distributed different colored falcon removable stickers that could be placed on the windows. The Green Falcon is placed on the window welcoming others to visit the class while they try new and innovative activities in the class. This has improved cross-collaboration and peer-to-peer learning.
